Two inscriptions are placed along the thin oval rim, “Phoenicopterus roseus” and “ҚОҚИҚАЗ”, referring to the name of the birds in Latin and in Kazakh.
Obverse: The central inscription indicates the face value of the coin, “500 tenge” (in Kazakh), followed by smaller inscriptions: “Ag 925 24 g”, which refers to the coin’s material (925 sterling silver) and weight, and “2009”, indicating the year of mintage. The upper segment features the words “National Bank of Kazakhstan” (in Kazakh), aligned with the oval rim, and the symbol of Kazakhstan’s State Mint. The lower segment contains an outline of a butterfly and flowering plants.
